What to Stockpile in October

October weather gets colder and the rock bottom prices reflect that change.  This month is a good time to stock up on
- over-the-counter cold remedies
- warm breakfast foods (oatmeal, pancake mix, frozen waffles)
- crackers and soups

Of course you've noticed the Halloween candy displays.  While you might find a good deal here or there, the real deals on these treats will be after Halloween.  If you're looking to stockpile candy until next month.

What to Stockpile in September

Back to school sales for school supplies are just about finished.  You may be able to find items like backpacks and lunch boxes on clearance soon.  Good idea to snag a few if you think you might need replacements.

The back to school items on sale now are those for lunches.  Think granola bars, sandwich fixings (especially peanut butter and jelly), and single serving sizes of snack foods ideal for packing in lunch boxes or stashing in a back pack for after sports practice.

Also be on the lookout for breakfast foods such as pancake mixes, cereals, and sausages.

Campbells traditionally runs a big promotion in September.  Look for that brand as well as other colder weather meal ingredients as fall approaches.

Finally, stores have been decked out in Halloween displays for a month or so and are beginning to showcase Christmas items.  Don't be surprised to see some early toy sales in anticipation of that December holiday.

What to Stockpile in August

It seems that August is the month that most folks go on vacation, scramble to finish their summer to-do lists, and get ready to head back to school.  The sales cycle reflects all three.

For those who don't want summer to end, look for sales on grilling foods and picnic goods to continue.  These sales will be winding down until Labor Day, so now is the time to stock up on condiments, paper plates, BBQ sauce, hot dogs, and the like.

For those who need to plan for school, the Back to School sales are in full swing:  crayons, markers, notebooks, paper.  You won't find them at a lower price than you will now.
As the month draws to a close, look for a gradual switch from school supplies to lunchbox items.  Peanut butter and jelly, individual-sized snacks, and other packable foods should be featured later in August.

Kellogg's and Keebler have historically had big back to school promotions, so look for some good prices and good coupons from these brands.  You may even find a coupon booklet or two at an in-store display.
